Patio doors?

me asked:

Is installing vinyl sliding glass doors hard to do along with building wooden steps down from the door outside. I am planning on knocking my bedroom window which is 53 by 41 inches out and installing the sliding glass doors. So I was wondering if this is a really challengeing job or not. We have aluminum siding outside and I want to make everything water tight. So I was wondering if there was sometype of vinyl planking I could put at the top of the door to cover the wood. I would prefer if the door was at least 5 feet wide. I want this door to be maintenance free so i think vinyl would be a good choice. So any tips or advice would be nice or how much it would cost to do this by canadian pricing. I was also wondering if you could buy pre built stairs for outside the door like from home depot or rona. thanks

Sis Cochran asked:

I would like to know how to find a contractor to create a hole in my dining room for patio doors, right now it’s just a wall.
Is it possible? I was told by Sears they can install but they can not create a space.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Of course I will need a permit right?

Life Forms Etc. asked:

I have thermal-pane sliding glass patio doors that have lost the gas and sweat-ed inside. They now have a haze that is backed on. I have 4-8 pannels in this condition. Does anyone know of a remedy for this? Is there any way to remove the haze that forms in between the panes of glass?

I have rotting wood in the frame of my patio doors?

July 15th, 2010 | Posted in patios   Comments Off
pnmscvsm asked:

The rot is in two places, the bottom board that holds a glass window pane and in the bottom 10 inches of one of the vertical supports.

Is there any way to “treat” the wood to strengthen the existing structure and prevent any further rot or will I have to have the patio doors reframed?

master4you asked:

I live in a townhome which the association requires that patio door replacements must conform with the rest of the units. After conferring with a number of window stores, it appears that my patio door (circa 1996) is no longer produced. So essentially, I am in need of a custom solution… made to order patio doors. Help!

Johnathan Gerber asked:

Consumers are continuously bombarded with choices. What colours, size, design, style, etc.?

When it comes to choosing the perfect window treatment for your patio door, you are faced with the difficult decision of whether to go for drapes, curtains or blinds. Blinds are a favourite of mine, and for many reasons.

What is your first memory of patio door blinds? Are you maybe thinking about those awful vertical blinds found in older apartments?

If this is your perception, your mind needs to be changed! The market nowadays offers homeowners choice on all fronts in order to achieve your decorative goals.

Many professional decorators have a myriad of ways to categorise different blind types. All power to them of course!! I keep it straight and simple and tend to divide blinds into two main categories, i.e. Modern and Traditional.

The market for modern looking patio door blinds is vast. The most popular choices include aluminium blinds which blends well with a modern decorative theme and something like black leather furniture.

The more traditional blinds include vertical wooden blinds which, if incorporated effectively, can create a very cosy feel to your room. It’s also great for insulating your room – a great benefit in particularly the colder months.

Then there is off course the inevitable – bamboo blinds. These have been around for years now, and just doesn’t seem to loose it’s charm. It can be effectively introduced to just about any home decorating setting, but does an exceptional job well if you’re trying to create relaxing, beach-type atmosphere in your room.

Now these are the broad outlines on what the homeowner has to choose from. The question now beckons – why go for blinds as your window treatment of choice? Well the reasons are endless.

Some folks just plainly prefer blinds as opposed to curtains or drapes. Perhaps you want to create a more spacious feel to your room, or perhaps you enjoy that fact that it’s easy to install. Blinds have a great insulation capability and will be an excellent tool to keep the cold outside and the warmth indoors and also will protect your privacy when you need it.

We all want a great looking patio area, but we also want it to come at minimal effort to ourselves. If you opt for curtains, you will be required to wash these at fairly regular intervals. Blinds on the other hand are relatively easy to maintain, and cleaning them is a walk in the park. You obviously want to enjoy your home, and not slave away for hours trying to maintain it.

All things considered, a compelling argument ion favour of patio door blinds.
