How can I insulate a sliding patio door?

Saturday, January 31st, 2009
Christa H asked:

I live in an apartment, so I can’t just go and replace the door, but it’s not well-insulated. It has vertical blinds, but they don’t seem to do anything except keep light out. The front room is always cold and it’s affecting my heating bill. I am looking for a solution that’s relatively easy to do and won’t look terrible. Bonus if it’s something I can use in the summer too to keep AC costs down. Please offer any suggestions you have!

Have you ever put your car through a patio door?

Thursday, January 29th, 2009
hiramirah asked:

I have a wall that is framed I could put a patio door on that enters into my workshop. I was wondering if anyone reading this has ever brought thier car “inside” through a patio door. I am looking at the type that swing out from the sides. I have a VW bus that can be about 6′3″ tall and not as wide. The only thing I can think of it might be a little hard on the threshold but I don’t plan on using it as a garage door, bring it in, fix it, roll it out. No running indoors. The space is air conditioned and its on my property.

any ideas? Or sources for “old fashoned” garage doors that would provide decent insulation quality? I cant have a roll up due to stairway configurations. I have found a door my project will fit though for $278.00

I’m looking for a standard 6ft. sliding patio door that is full vinyl (inside and outside) and has white shades (not blinds) inside the glass. I would like to save $$ and install myself.

what are good drapes to by for the back patio door?

Saturday, January 17th, 2009
FoundNemo asked:

it’s a sliding glass back patio door. they (women in the family) already picked out one, but it looks to be really long drapes that part in the middle and you can move by hand. i don’t like it as it sticks out slightly too far from the glass and can let cold air come in through the sides. it also makes our family room look like it has a giant window. does anyone have any good recommendation for good, stylish type curtains for a back patio? any help is appreciated. store recommendations or links with pics and good price is also a great help =D

is there a 3 point lock system keyless lock available for a double swing vinyl patio door?

Saturday, January 10th, 2009
relandlukesmom asked:

The current lock in place is a Hoppe HLS9000? I need a keyless (int and ext sides of the door) lock to replace it. Thank you.
I have called two locksmiths, a hardware company, and contacted two lock manufacturers.
I need a REAL answer please.

Where can I find unique, yet stylish window coverings or patio door ideas?

Thursday, January 8th, 2009
kiki8_2002 asked:

I’ve been searching for unique and stylish window or patio door coverings. I haven’t found anything yet that has caught my eye and stood out as original. I have patio doors in the kitchen and living room, so I’m open to ideas for that as well.

Does anyone have suggestions on where I might look? I suppose I’ll have to have something custom made. What places would have reasonable prices if I decide to go custom? I’m from Illinois.

Billy

Do you know where I can find a patio door with a little window built in on the top half of the door?

Thursday, January 1st, 2009
Nelly asked:

I’m looking for a sliding glass patio door to replace mine. I would like it to have a little window or a little opening on the top half of the door, so that I can open the window to let fresh air in without having to open the whole door.
I have searched online, but have had no luck finding this so far.
Thank you.
