Is there any way to remedy a newly installed, poor quality patio-door screen that doesn’t slide open easily?

Friday, October 31st, 2008
babeboomer asked:

The contractor did everything as cheap as he could, so I’m sure the screen is just too flimsy to work right. Will a new better-made screen make it work right? I want some ideas when I confront him with this. (He already has to redo many other things). The entire door was set in wrong, all the way flush with the inside of the wall, leaving a large unprotected threshold. Would that make the screen not work?

Patio door lock won’t engage. How to move it to correct position?

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008
Sola123 asked:

This aggravating thing! I am selling my house, and although this lock never worked when I bought the house, the inspector for the new buyer says it has to be fixed.

Simple right? It appears that the receiving part is too high for the lock thingy to engage. I removed the receiving end that has a rectangle opening, but how to know where exactly to mount it?

I tried a little higher, a little lower. There must be a trick. I can’t see or mark exactly where to mount it, since it’s hidden when the door is closed. You can’t see the lock at all.

Could it be the ‘hook’ part itself that is not staying in the rectangle receptacle? How to know?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Jacob

What special tools are needed to to cut a steel patio door?

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008
gatedude1@sbcglobal.net asked:

I have a steel patio door going to my deck. It is a 64″ X 20″ full light opening. A friend of mine gave me a 64″ X 22″ insert containing blinds built into the window. What power tools do I need to cut the steel other than a hacksaw?

Where can I get the best deal on a doggie door for my 96″ tall patio door?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008
Angler XL asked:

We do get 4 seasons out here and it gets cold and snowy in the winter. I would like a quality door at an affordable price, but can’t seem to find one that is 96 inches tall. They all max out at 81 inches.

Do you know any home remedies to stop neighbor’s cat from spraying at our patio door?

Friday, October 17th, 2008
Vickie G asked:

I have a neutered in-door cat and a neighbor’s cat comes up on our deck and sprays on the patio door. I have seen it do this and I’ve shooed it away several times, but I can not watch for it all the time. I’m hoping for some ideas to discourage the visitor from leaving it’s mark!
